Programming grid up for SpoCon
Written by somecallmeTim
Wednesday, 16 July 2008
he Programming grid is posted -- there are some minor changes underway The final grid will be done by this weekend where proofing will be done and then we'll go to print. Go here to see what's going on:

http://www.spocon.us/programming

And there is a banner for each day, with Saturday split in two. There is plenty to see and do during the Con -- more than hanging out in the LAN / Console area. When you check in, you will get a full sized (8 1/2 x 11) program guide with lots of detail, and a "pocket" program guide with the basics in there.

So... what are you waiting for! Get your butts signed up!

Okay -- for those bringing a PCfor the LAN room (I have all 30 spots filled by the way...) set up really will not happen until Friday morning -- we will mainly be doing tables and power on Thursday night, with the rest of the set up Friday morning. If anyone would like to volunteer to help with set up == let me know. We will need help stuffing bags, and we can put you to work Friday morning as well helping out. Cons thrive on Volunteers -- if you are going to be available and would like to help, let me know and I'll let you all know when and where.

On a sad note, our gaming guest Steve Long will not be able to attend SpoCon -- his mother is going in for Surgery over that weekend and he needs to be there. We may have him for next year -- here's to hoping his mom does well.

Barnes & Noble at the Northtown Mall will be hositng a SpoCon book signing on Thursday, July 31st from 3:00 - 7:00 PM. SpoCon Guest of Honor, Timothy Zahn, Guest Artist and author Mark Ferrari, Special Guest John Dalmas and Dr. James Glass will be signing books.

This is an amazing opportunity to meet the guests and authors before the convention, SpoCon staff will be on-site to answer questions about the Convention and to take pre-registrations for the Convention which begins the next day, Friday, August 1st.

That is all for now -- more as I have it available!

SpokLAN needs you for SpoCon

Okay -- SpoCon is less than 40 days away and it's now time to fill up the "Electronic Gaming" room. Just ask Howie, it's a BIG room!

Our goal is 30 PCs, and 2 or three consoles' running, and we would like to have a total of 3 projectors (2 on the LAN, and 1 on the PCs.) If we manage to have more than 30 PCs, we may use the overflow for MMOs.. 'maybe'.

If you donate your PC for SpoCon, your membership will be only $25 for the entire convention!

If you want to donate your PC for the LAN gaming (I need 30 total for this year) I would greatly appreciate it. We will have a lot of space for PCs and several consoles set up. If you want to donate your rig, I will need the system either Thursday night (July 31st) or before NOON on Friday August 2nd (the day the Con Starts).

If you are willing to donate your rig, I will need you to PM me that you are willing to donate along with the specs of your system: CPU, Amount of RAM, Vid Card, OS

I will then PM you back with how to register for SpoCon, and then how to pay so you only  will pay the $25 instead of the $35.

Before the Con, we will need you set up a "SpoCon" account that has access to your personal files denied and NO PASSWORD.

At the Con, we will need the password to your admin account to make sure that we can get everything running okay.

We also need some volunteers to monitor the LAN room for a few hours at a time during the Con. The "LAN and Console" gaming will be running from Noon Friday until Noon Sunday non-stop, so we need coverage for 48 hour Smiley -- include in your PM if you would like to help out as we'll be monitoring PCs AND consoles.

This info is all right here in the forums

HOLY AWESOME SAUCE!!!!!

Thanks to some generous donations, SpoCon has announced a very Special Guest:

John Dalmas!

John Dalmas and C'thulu Bob

(John Dalmas and C'thulu Bob - Bob runs MisCon )

For those not in the know... "Onkle Sven" lived in Spokane for many years, and is a wonder Sci-Fi author. His books really make you think, and have some very deep stories. He has been involved in the Con scene for many years as and editor, and has encouraged many authors to get published, and has also discourged others to find a different line of work. I am proud to call him a friend and am looking forward to seeing him again. Besides a great author, he is an amazing person as well.

For more information on John, pop on over to his Website .
